And the days continue. I am so busy this week and next I wouldn’t get anything done besides work and the basics if it wasn’t for this challenge.
I’ve very thankful for the challenge in that aspect. On the other hand, man my days are long!
So doing my five things takes on a new kind of busy when I have the challenge to do on top of my crazy work schedule.
My wife says I can just let some things go, but I’m driven to do the best job I can. So I can’t let many things go. I do let things go that are not urgent and important at work when I have part of my challenge to do.
So the things I do at work are the ones that I think will make me the most success for our company. I know that it is just my opinion because like most companies, mine does not have key areas of responsibility comprehensively spelled out. So I do the best I can.
I told one of my bosses last week, that in the absence of direction I will do what is in the company’s best interest. He liked that answer but I don’t think he liked the initiative I took to tell our boss’s boss about a problem.
We are going through a large acquisition and leadership change across the company and the problems hanging around that have become part of our culture need some change and I don’t mind talking to the boss about it.
Once those most important things are done at work, I check out for the day to make sure I get my stuff done. I also am setting time limits on how long I will work into the night. This keeps me from working until bed time and missing my 75 Hard Challenge.
What about you? What stops do you have built in so you do the important, but not urgent things in your life? Or are those the things that get pushed off because you are too busy?
