I almost messed it up today.
I got so into work that I focused on that. I did get a walk in for my workout but spent family time and almost forgot this post and podcast.
I would have gone to bed without doing it if I hadn’t picked up my water bottle and said crap, I have water left to drink. And then the rest hit me.
At least I already did my workout or I would have been out on the street at midnight trying to do that so that I didn’t mess up the challenge.
I knew something like this would happen the last couple days and I’ve been ignoring my App that gives me notifications everyday and haven’t been checking things off.
It’s my fault, but I salvaged it. By figuring it out before I went to bed. Writing at midnight when I should be sleeping is almost as hard as going for a workout in the middle of the night.
But I did it!
I continued the challenge. A near miss helps me get back into it. I will not be ignoring my app that tracks my habits called Strides. Sorry, seems to be apple only. But any habit tracker will do.
Just set it up at the beginning of the challenge (or where ever you are) and then do what it says and don’t ignore it… like I did.
This near miss is helpful for me and can be for you. In my past life as a Marine Infantry and a Security Contractor we would do After Action Assessments (the army is more popular and uses Review so it’s an AAR). If you look at what happened when you had the near miss and how you can avoid it next time, your near miss can be a blessing. You didn’t have something bad happen but you get the benefit of looking at it like you did.
Most industrial safety programs, military actions, and great leaders use an AAR to make themselves better every time something happens. There are a million complicated formulas and books on how to do an AAR. But all you need to do is look back at what happened, take responsibility for all of it (every last bit), and figure out how you could have done any or all the parts better to get a better outcome.
Me? I will be updating the app and turning on the sound notifications so it doesn’t happen again.
